El taco movil is Spanish for taco truck. In Los Angeles, you'd be hard-pressed to drive three blocks without spotting one of the white trucks that serve carnitas, pollo, salsa and other delicious toppings for the corn and wheat tortillas. I suppose the taco truck would be a rare sight in chichi cities such as Beverly Hills, Calif. But I do recall seeing a taco truck parked on a corner in Santa Monica, Calif., where $2 million dollar houses were being built by Latino laborers. What struck me about this particular vehicle, which was parked on Third Street west of Vermont on my morning commute route, is that it was decorated with a mural depicting a taco being chased by a hungry mob. Also on the colorfully painted crime scene is a cop, whose leg represents a snack of sorts for a stray dog. A gullible consumer, I would have stopped for a taco if the truck had been open at 9 a.m. My favorite taco stand is a corner joint called Machos Tacos at the intersection of Vermont and Hollywood in Los Feliz. The restaurant's slogan is "hecho en Los Feliz," or made in Los Feliz, and the chicken mole taco costs $1.75.
